The Legend of Xanadu is a action role-playing game developed by the Nihon Falcom Corporation. The eighth and final work in the "Dragon Slayer Series" produced by Yoshio Kiya.

Until then, it had only developed PC games, and ported them to home consoles only by providing licenses, leaving everything up to other companies. Nihon Falcom entered the home console market for the first time, and launched the PC Engine SUPER CD-ROM2. Nihon Falcom's representative programmer, Yoshio Kiya, was the last to be involved in Nihon Falcom's work, and like Kiya's other works, it belongs to the "Dragon Slayer Series". Both "The Legend of Xanadu I" and "The Legend of Xanadu II" were hits, and media mixes such as radio drama production were also performed. In 2004, a reprint of "The Legend of Xanadu I", which was made playable on Windows using the Project EGG system, was included in "Falcom Special Box '2004". In 2005, a reprint version of "The Legend of Xanadu II" was also created, and was bundled with the previous year's "The Legend of Xanadu I" as an initial bonus for the win game "Xanadu Next". These are reproductions of the PC Engine version using a game emulator, and later distributed on the Project EGG site for a fee. "The Legend of Xanadu I" was released on November 25, 2008 on the Wii virtual console, and "The Legend of Xanadu II" was released on January 27, 2009 (requires 800 Wii points each).
